Record Microsoft Patch Tuesday

Is Microsoft getting any better regarding security?

In a record Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released updates today for Windows, Internet Explorer, and the .NET framework that feature fixes for 49 holes, including one being exploited by the Stuxnet worm.
Microsoft recently fixed two of the four unpatched holes being used by Stuxnet to spread to Windows-based machines. The malware ultimately targets systems running software from Siemens that is used in critical infrastructure operations. Today's release plugs one (MS10-073) of the remaining two holes and the company said in a blog post that the final hole will be addressed in an upcoming security bulletin.

Robots in disguise

(Oct. 10) -- With little fanfare other than a post on Google's official blog, the search engine giant announced that it has been testing robotic cars on U.S. city streets, apparently without anybody noticing. Describing it as a "first in robotics research," Google says the self-driving cars -- modified Prius vehicles -- have already traveled more than 140,000 miles.

Research In Motion compromises on encryption

Research In Motion has produced a satisfactory solution for United Arab Emirates officials who demanded government access to the encrypted traffic on RIM's network. Neither party is presently willing to divulge details of the fix. RIM isn't out of the woods yet, though. It still faces similar clampdowns in countries like India, where the government recently rejected a RIM proposal for compromise.

Microsoft's solution to infected machines

Microsoft is calling for "collective action" to combat cyberthreats -- particularly botnets. "Governments, industry and consumers should support cybersecurity efforts modeled on efforts to address human illnesses," says VP of Trustworthy Computing Scott Charney in a new position paper. "For a society to be healthy, its members must be aware of basic health risks and be educated on how to avoid them."

Goldberg hates my guts

“Goldberg hates my guts,” Duane Gill said. "He told me right to my face."

The former World Heavyweight Champion's animosity shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, Gill is the man who found his greatest success in WWE while portraying "Gillberg" — an over-the-top, comical spoof of Goldberg's wildly intense persona. But what the WCW powerhouse may not realize is that what he perceived as an offensive lampoon was actually a tribute from a man who has spent his life enamored with sports-entertainment.

Apple's iPad - taking care of business

Apple’s iPad is an impressive piece of technology. Here are some tips need to know to get the most out of it as a business tool.

Apple’s iPad has become a huge hit with consumers as a content consumption platform, but for business users, it’s been something as a hit or miss as Apple hasn’t provided a lot of guidance to the end-user as how to correctly configure it for essential day-to-day use, and how to get the most out of the device in terms of sharing data with PCs and external Web services.

As an iPad owner from the day the first units were delivered to customers, I’ve spent a lot of time determining how to get the most out of its functionality. I’ve assembled this guide, which will serve as a constantly updated work in progress, for those of you who may be new to the iPad and iOS platform and are looking for interoperability.

The Difference Between Learning and Improving

I've been reading a ton of goal-setting and motivation books lately. I just haven't felt like I've been making much progress or seen the changes that I should.

Success Magazine's Darren Hardy has a great article about how to actually improve from self-improvement materials:

There is a significant difference between learning and improving. The difference is results.
Have you ever been to a seminar, listened to an audio program or read a book that promised life transforming results in 90 days or less… and it didn’t happen?
It wasn’t that the material didn’t work; you didn’t do the work. It’s not what you learn; it’s what you do with what you learn. Doing has to follow learning.
Knowing what to do is not the same as doing what you know. There are a lot of people who read all the books (or blogs!) and go to all the seminars, but their life never improves. The world is filled with broke geniuses.
I will walk you through my process of how I turn learning into study and study into improvement/results.
Selection. I break my yearly goal achievement plans into four quarterly themes. In each quarter I focus on a particular area of my life or skill I want to improve (i.e. marriage, health, keynote speaking, interviewing, etc.).
I research online and reach out to my personal network for recommendations on the best resources for improving that discipline or skill.

Mudvanye - Demons - Coffins and Babies

This is a part of a wild dream I had last night. First of all note that the dream was in full rich color which I don't think is common. I was in the audience of a Mudvayne concert. I noted that they were wearing their makeup which was cool! They started jamming then all the lights went out. I could make out my arm...barely. Other than that it was pitch black dark. The music had stopped playing and all I could hear was a little crowd chatter and these weird growls. I then could feel and see shadows passing over the crowd, over my body and over my arm. To make myself feel better, I just kept thinking, it's part of the show...it's part of the show. Then next thing I know the lights are on. I look up and there is this demon/monster/creature standing in front of me! The color was a deep virbrant read with a few black stripe patches. I counted at least 3 eyes and they were huge and deep deep black. The demon started speaking and moving eratically. I couldn't understand what it was saying. By this time not much was left of the crowd (most had left when the lights went out). The demon spoke for a few second then the scene shifted to something even weirder. It was kind of a bright light, with strange music playing in the background. There were about 3 coffins. Two of them had babies/kids sitting on them wearing suits, smiling and playing. All 3 coffins seemed to be on this circular rotating platform (like a stage at a rock concert). Then the Mudvayne song Death Blooms started playing. Then the dream ended.

I wonder what the crap this dream could mean?
